Speaker : Dan Geer - Insurance

Dan Geer gave us a very informative presentation on insurance. One of the items that Dan stated was that you should talk to your agent about any of your questions or concerns (that is why you are paying them). Dan broke down some industry lingo to lay person’s English for all of us non insurance people to understand. Dan also threw out the fact that the average person pays an average of $950/year of their premiums on insurance fraud.

Quotes of the Night (from the speaker and the audience)

Rose SALE - Has been EXTENDED!

Ladies and Gentlemen, start your engines! It is time for a spectacular Valentine's Day Rose Sale! As we are working at completing our commitment to Habitat, this should help us get closer to our goal!

Roses will be selling for $20/dozen, $55/3 dozen (this is an excellent deal for this time of year!). No vases will be sold this year.

Sale ends Friday, January 13- please have numbers to me by that morning.

Delivery on Monday, February 13 at Roseville Radisson (to coincide w/ Roseville's meeting, since they are joining in the sale with us). Roses will be available for pick up from noon through 6 p.m. If you cannot make it at this time, please contact me to coordinate alternate arrangements.

The following varieties are available to us (all flowers are 48hrs. old or less from cut to delivery):

  • Forever Young- deep/hot pink
  • Pailine- yellow w/ reddish tips
  • Gold Strike- yellow
  • Blue Curiosa- violet
  • Rouge Basier- red
  • Geisha- yellow w/ pink tips
  • Orange Unique
  • Peekaboo- peachy/yellow
  • Versilia- light pink
  • White
  • Shocking Versilia- carnation pink

To help sell the roses, let people know that the different colors signify different things:

Red roses mean romantic love. Purple roses signify that the giver has fallen in love with the recipient at first sight. Coral and orange roses signal desire. Yellow roses are joy and friendship. Pink roses express our gratitude and appreciation. Light pink roses show feelings of admiration and sympathy. Peach is more indefinite, as it can signify either sympathy or gratitude. White roses show meaning of reverence and humility.

I am working on getting some samples for people to put on their desktops (post holiday) to help show their beauty off.

As you are selling your roses, don't forget to get some for yourself! They are always a good way to brighten a winter day!

Please contact Jen Neid for more information!

ROTARY TIDBIT OF THE WEEK:
APPLICANTS FOR AMBASSODORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS SOUGHT

The Ambassadorial Scholarship is designed to further international understanding and goodwill by providing study abroad for one year in one of the 162 countries and 35 geographical regions where Rotary clubs are located. Some 1,200 scholarships will be available from clubs worldwide.

Academic-Year Ambassadorial Scholarships are for one academic year abroad and provide funding for round-trip transportation, tuition and fees, room, board, necessary educational supplies, and language training (if necessary) up to a maximum award of US $26,000 or its equivalent.

During their studies abroad, Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholars act as “ambassadors of goodwill.” Through appearances before Rotary clubs and districts, schools, civic organizations, and other forums, the scholars represent their homelands and work to further international understanding.

To apply, please contact your local Rotary Club or call Jingle Mahan at 651/636-9054 or jingle@rotary5960.org in the District office for information on your local Rotary Club and how to obtain an application.

How does one apply?

Application must be made through a local Rotary club in the applicant’s legal or permanent residence or place of full-time study or employment. People with disabilities and members of Rotaract clubs are eligible and encouraged to apply. The scholarship selection process consists of three levels: club, district, and world. After receiving applications, Rotary clubs forward their candidates to the Rotary district level for competition.

For more information, contact Grete Krohn or go to www.rotary5960.org for timelines and press release.
