Speaker: Joe Fox ~ "Leonardo's Last Supper"

Michelle Blommel presented the club with banners from other clubs that she collected from her adventures as a GSE and an Ambassadorial Scholar. Dave G. took possession of the banners and will be unveiling them shortly.

Our speaker was Joe Fox who is an art history professor. He shared with us the different interpretations of the Last Supper and how different styles of art interpret the same scene. It was very interesting to see which part of The Last Supper the various artists chose to interpret. There was also a brief discussion on the DaVinci code and how The Last Supper is interpreted in it.

In addition to working as a professor, Joe does appraising of art.

Interesting fact: Art Patrons are often depicted in the works of the artists they supported, even in religious artworks.

Attendees: Nathaniel Damron, Mona McGarthwaite, Tami Eshult, Dave Gilberstadt, Dan Geer, Grete Krohn, and Michelle Blommel

Guest(s): Jim McCormick of the St Paul Club, Jill Javor- Our GSE, Joe Fox, Susan Reische and Kyle

La Bodega Tapas Bar

(corner of Lake and Lyndale) in Minneapolis

RSVP: by Feb. 20 to Grete (612-375-8535 or gkrohninuk@yahoo.com )

The Scene

With its sunshine-yellow walls, ornately tiled bar, live flamenco music and dancing on weekend nights, the atmosphere is fun and festive.

The Food

Bring your friends to La Bodega because the menu only has tapas--small dishes of Spanish food meant to be shared. The most basic tend to be basic, like the caprese salad made with buffalo mozzarella or the white button mushrooms sauteed in white wine sauce. The chefs have a way with seafood : The fried calamari is crisp and non-greasy, garlic shrimp are fresh and perfectly grilled, and the tomato-tuna-egg salad is refreshingly light and simple. Both desserts--flan and tiramisu--are light and delicious.

Parking: There's a lot in the back and street parking.

Address: 3005 Lyndale Ave S | Minneapolis
