Speaker: Priscilla Zee from Central Corridor/St. Paul Chamber of Commerce
- Did you know that 73 percent of metro residents said traffic congestion is a serious problem? What are we going to do?
- Light rail transit will relieve congestion, enhance our quality of life and foster new economic development.
- The vision of the Central Corridor Partnership – create an 11-mile light rail transit line from Union Depot in downtown St. Paul, travel through Midway area (right by Applebee’s), through the University of Minnesota, and end in downtown Minneapolis. Time to travel: 43 minutes.
- Cost: $840 million, which includes an underground tunnel around the U of M.
- Fun Fact: Potential light rail on University Ave. in St. Paul would run in the middle of the street because University Ave. is particularly wide.
- This will give St. Paul residents/workers links to Minneapolis, the Mall of America and the Airports.
- Ideally, this route could be completed by 2011.
- But a lot of work needs to be done. Businesses need to organize and get on board. The state needs to pursue federal and state funds.
If you are interested in supporting the Central Corridor Partnership, contact Priscilla Zee: priscilla@centralcorridorpartnership.org.

Rotary District 5960 is opening the applications for Group Study Exchange (GSE) team members and team leaders immediately for an exchange to Heidelberg, Germany (District 1860) in May, 2006. The timelines are short for this interview and selection process, so please act today by announcing the opportunity, recruiting qualified candidates by talking with your local businesses about the leadership and business development opportunities that GSE holds or consider asking your employee or a club member to apply.
